NEW FOR 2010-11......EAGLE BLOCK |
 |
 |
 |
 |
Eagle Block
The mission of Osbourn High School is to empower all students to achieve personal excellence.
Eagle Block
will give each student an additional vehicle to assist in his/her quest to achieve personal excellence by providing an opportunity during the school day for academic intervention, acceleration, or enrichment.
Eagle Block will meet for forty minutes every Tuesday and Thursday. Generally, a student will be assigned to an Eagle Block section with a teacher he or she has during another class period.
The first 12 minutes of Eagle Block is spent silently reading. Each student may select what he/she reads within guidelines. This period of silent sustained reading is called, "SSR." The remainder of Eagle Block allows each student the opportunity to receive additional help from one or more of his/her teachers, collaborate with other students on a project, attend an SOL acceleration session, complete make-up work, work in a computer lab, attend an AP Exam review session, do research in the library, attend a subject/topic specific study session, and so forth. Eagle Block may also be used for special assemblies or activities.
What are some of the benefits of Eagle Block?
-
It will make getting caught up after an absence easier and less stressful.
-
It will help a struggling student keep from falling behind.
-
It will help a student with a heavy class load or significant responsibilities outside of school to get a jump start on his/her work and stay ahead of the curve.
-
It will give a student easier access to his/her teachers on non-class days.
-
It will help students get that collaborative project done well and on time. It is important to note that the eight-block alternating day schedule that Osbourn students have become used to will not be affected by the inclusion of Eagle Block. However, in order to schedule Eagle Block two times per week and always on a Tuesday and Thursday, the reference to A and B days will disappear.
The following colors will now be used to designate days in the high school schedule:
Silver, Blue, White and Gray
. The typical student will attend four of his/her courses on Silver and Blue days and his/her other four courses on White and Gray days. So in effect, Silver and Blue days are the former A-Day and White and Gray days are the former B-Day. Eagle Block will be part of a student's Blue and Gray day schedules. Therefore, classes will be shortened on Blue and Gray days to allow for the inclusion of Eagle Block. |
